Using the ecoegg Laundry Egg for the first time? Or maybe you’re only just discovering our Laundry Eggs and you’re not sure what they are. Don’t worry, we’ll explain everything you need to know about the Laundry Egg, and we’ll take you through our most asked questions, so you’ll be a Laundry Egg pro by the end of this blog.
What is the ecoegg Laundry Egg?
Our Laundry Eggs are an eco-friendly replacement for traditional laundry detergents. The detergent in our Laundry Eggs are our laundry pellets which are housed in the Laundry Egg Case. The case is refillable, reusable and comes with a 10-year guarantee.
Your Laundry Egg will last you up to 70 washes before needing a refill (unless you’ve purchased the Starter Kit which will last you 50 washes). Then all you do is purchase the refills and you’re good to go!
How do the Laundry Eggs differ from traditional laundry detergent?
Our Laundry Eggs are designed to be better for your skin, pockets and the planet. Our founder, Dawn, created the Laundry Egg after struggling with eczema and not being able to find a product on the market that worked for her sensitive skin, that was also affordable and kind to the planet.
We are very proud of our Laundry Eggs. Here are some of the top reasons you should make the switch to Ecoegg Laundry Eggs:
✅ Made for sensitive and eczema prone skin
✅ Hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested
✅Perfect for babies and young children
✅ Vegan & cruelty free
✅ Safe for aquatic life
✅ 14p per wash OR 7p per wash with our subscribe & save option for refills
✅ 10-year warranty for your Egg Case
Setting up your Laundry Egg for first use
So, you’ve purchased your first Laundry Egg and need to get it ready for its first use. Don’t worry, we’ll walk you through the process to make laundry day run as smoothly as possible.
Before your first use
Before your very first use, we recommend using a Detox Tablet to clean out your machine.
Traditional laundry detergents often build up in pipes and the hard-to-reach places of your machine, often collecting over time and creating a musk. The harsh chemicals and fragrances in typically laundry detergent will mask these smells.
This is why it’s important to detox before your first wash, to ensure that your Laundry Egg can work its best. We recommend using a Detox Tablet every month thereafter to keep your machine clean of gunk and limescale.
How can I use my Egg
Our Laundry Eggs work great in warm and cold washes. The most important thing to remember is that the hottest temperature you can use an ecoegg Laundry Egg for is 60C. If you have a washer/dryer, please remove the Egg before moving on to the drying cycle.
The Laundry Egg is also perfect for handwashing, as our detergent pellets aren’t full of chemicals, your hands won’t be irritated by the detergent. If you’re interested in learning more about how you can use the Laundry Egg to hand wash, check out our blog ‘Clean Clothes means Happy Campers’
Opening & closing your Egg

Our frequently asked questions
Here are some of our most frequently asked questions, if you can’t find an answer to your question here or on our FAQ page, pop us your question over to hello@ecoegg.com, we’ll be more than happy to answer.
How do I dispose of my pellets once used?
Your pellets can be placed in your general waste bin.
We’re still searching for ways to make our pellets compostable but in the meantime, you can refer to our blog ‘Wondering what to do with your old pellets? Here are a few tips to help you find creative ways to reuse your pellets’ for clever little ways to reuse your pellets.
Why does my washing not have a heavily fragranced smell?
Our formula is designed to be gentle on sensitive skin and kind to your clothes. Traditional laundry detergents are full of fragrances that are often harmful to aquatic life or an irritant on your skin. These fragrances often give the impression that clean clothes must have a strong smell to be clean. This is not true.
Our Eggs aren’t full of harsh fragrances that over-power dirty machines and pipes. So, if you've been using traditional laundry detergent, you may notice a lingering musk when you make the switch to ecoegg.
This is completely normal and that's why we recommend detoxing your machine with our Detox Tablets prior to your first use, to remove any residue or musk and give you the ultimate cleaning power.
