Sunny Side Up: A Monthly Dose of Happy News – Edition 5

We’re back with another dose of happy news! If the headlines have felt a bit overwhelming lately, don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. We’ve rounded up some of the most uplifting and positive stories from October to brighten your day. So, get cosy, grab a cuppa, and dive into this month’s good news.

Wildling: The brand-new app that helps you connect with nature again

Wildling has launched a new app designed to help you reconnect with nature. With just a few taps, you can discover stunning nature spots near you or explore hidden gems across the UK making it easier than ever to get outdoors, unwind, and break free from the cycle of doomscrolling. The app also features inspiring blogs filled with ideas and tips for deepening your connection with the natural world.

This focus on rebuilding our bond with nature comes at a crucial time. A recent YouGov study found that only 34% of people feel connected to nature throughout the year. In response, the National Trust is launching its new “Wild Senses” campaign. An initiative designed to help people reconnect with the natural world, especially during the darker months.

The wonders of a mast year

You may have noticed that this year, trees seem to be bursting with fruits, seeds, and nuts and it’s not just a random coincidence. This is what’s known as a mast year, a natural phenomenon that happens only once every five to ten years. During a mast year, trees produce an abundance of food, creating a feast for wildlife. So if you spot a few extra plump squirrels scampering around this season, now you know the reason why!

Fantastic fungi sightings across the world

It’s not just been an incredible year for trees. Mushrooms are stealing the spotlight too! Fungi are flourishing across the world, with some remarkable sightings this season. As mushroom season hits its peak, don’t miss the chance to spot some yourself. Take a wander through your local mossy woods, keep your eyes peeled, and you might just stumble upon something truly rare.
